ACHIEVEMENTS

Our organization has successfully completed three years of services to the cause of bringing about a change in the lives of street children and the struggle is still on. A brief overview is being presented for your information, mainly characterized by events:

  • Dastak; Drop-in-Center (Day time shelter), A project of Azad Foundation for Street Living Children organized a walk to commemorate the International Human Rights Day on 9th December 2005
  • International Youth Jam 2005, organized at Pearl Continental Hotel at 7th – 10th August 2005. Participants from India, Bangladesh, Srilanka and Germany participated to highlight various problem related to youth and street children
  • With the collaboration of UNICEF conducted an “Adolescents’ Provincial and National Forums on HIV and AIDS Prevention & Care 2005” on 4th October, 2005 at Social Welfare Training Institute, Karachi.
  • A documentary named as “Street Souls” was launched on 1st August 2002
  • Established a Drop-in Center (Daytime Shelter ‘DASTAK’) for street children at Saddar Town, Karachi on November 2004.
  • Participated at Family Fun Fair, , with the collaboration of Community Development Department to mark the Universal Children’s Day at Safari Park on 20th November 2005
  • Azadi Carnival was organized on 12th August 2004

  • A poster campaign was designed as a mini thesis by the students of Visual Arts Department, University of Karachi; campaign and exhibition was organized and promoted by Azad Foundation at Park Towers, Clifton, Karachi from 1-3 January, 2004
  • Poster Painting Competition was jointly organized by Azad Foundation and PCCWD on 3rd February, 2005
  • Organized a walk on 31st March’2001 for highlighting the affect of solvent abuse on street children
  • Still photography exhibition was held from 25th to 27th june2001 at Frere Hall.
  • Member of Adolescent’s Provincial and National Forum on HIV and Aids prevention and care UNICEF
  • Training for sexual abuse and risk practices among street children for the street councilors of Azad Foundation
  • Participated at “Children and Young people Regional Workshop” on SA Regional Mid-Term Review of the “The Yokohama Global Commitment 2001”, organized by UNICEF, Save The Children and ECPAT 29th September to 1st October, 2004, Colombo, Srilanka
  • Three Days workshop with the collaboration of Aahung on Street Living Children based on sexual health, July 14-16, 2003
  • Juvenile Justice System workshop for street children 26th April 2003
  • Participated Two day workshop on building a National Knowledge base on Child Labor in Pakistan –ILO (Islamabad) on 30-31 January’2003
  • Organized workshop on Juvenile Justice with twenty-five street children at Karachi on 26th April’2003, with the collaboration of Amal.
  • We are the representative of Pakistan for Youth, Peace & Development Program of World Bank
  • Attended a pre-annual meeting organized by World Bank under the title “ Youth, Development & Peace “, on 15&16 September, 2003
  • An active member of Consortium for Street Children and participated in workshop “Promoting and Protecting the rights of Children in Juvenile Justice System” from 14-18th July, 2003, at London
  • Being an effective core formed by N.C.C.W.D we coordinate on various issues at government level
